Getting a tattoo can be exciting and, let’s be honest, a little nerve-racking. Especially if you’re someone who gets overwhelmed by unexpected situations, social interactions, or if you simply identify as introverted.
At BlackBear Ink, everyone is welcome. That’s why we’ve created this step-by-step guide, from the moment you walk through our door to the moment you leave with your fresh new ink.
This is for anyone who likes to be prepared, and prefers knowing exactly what to expect before showing up for a tattoo appointment.

Already know what you want? Great! You can easily request an appointment via the form on our website. We’ll email you with a date and time that works.
Not sure which artist is the best fit for your idea? No stress. We’ll suggest a few options and you get to choose who feels right. We also offer consultations if you’d like to discuss or co-create your concept with an artist.

When you arrive, one of our shop managers will welcome you. You will be asked to fill out a consent form and be offered coffee, tea or water to drink. The vibe is relaxed and if you’re feeling nervous for whatever reason, feel free to say so. It’s a safe space. You might even get a little dance if you’re lucky.
👉 Pro tip: Take a 360° tour of our Utrecht studio on Google Maps.
Your artist will come greet you, and together you’ll go over the design, size and exact placement of your tattoo. This takes place in either the lounge area or one of our booths.
In Eindhoven, we have 9 booths set up in a large open space. In Utrecht, the studio has 3 private rooms, each with 2 booths. Either way, both locations offer a safe, personal and comfortable experience.
Depending on where your tattoo will go, you may need to roll up a sleeve or remove a piece of clothing. Pajamas and sweatpants are totally welcome.
Before the actual tattooing begins, the artist will place a stencil on your skin. This is your chance to decide if it feels right. And yes, you can absolutely ask for it to be repositioned. It’s your body and “the rest of your life” is a long time to live with a design or placement you’re not 100% happy with.
Let’s go! For smaller tattoos, the session usually goes straight through. For larger pieces (like day sessions), you’re going to be taking breaks. You can eat, drink or stretch your legs in between.
One of our shop managers might pop by with a “do-you-need-sugar?” moment. Not feeling 100%? A cookie or cola usually helps. But if you’ve booked a longer session, we recommend bringing your own snacks as well.
After the session, your artist might take a few photos of your fresh ink. These could be shared on their social media or BlackBear Ink’s channels. Would you prefer the photos not to be shared? No problem at all. It’s your body, your choice.
Your artist will cover your new tattoo with either Second Skin (a breathable bandage you leave on for a few days) or (clear) foil. If you have sensitive skin or are unsure about Second Skin, we’ll go with the foil.
You will receive detailed aftercare instructions along with a small info booklet. We also sell gentle products like soap and healing balm made specifically for tattoo care.

10. Payment
You’ll pay your artist directly, usually via QR code, payment request or online banking. Every artist has their own preferred method, but it’s always easy and digital.
Final Thoughts: You’re Always Welcome Here
We hope this guide brings you a bit more peace of mind and clarity about the tattoo process at BlackBear Ink. That said, life is full of surprises- maybe your shop manager is someone different than you expected or maybe your artist prefers to sketch freehand instead of using a stencil.
No matter what, you’ll leave with a piece of art to cherish for a lifetime.
